    Marine City Public Library

In 1889, after completion of the new City Hall, the Ladies Library Association set up a circulating book collection in one room of the new building. Sometime after 1918, the City assumed responsibility for the Library services which contained to be provided in the City Hall until 1938. At that time the book collection was moved to the Newport Academy where library operations were hosed for the next forty(40) years.

By 1980 the book collection had grown to 12,000 volumes and the population in the service area had risen to about 15,000 people. the need for ore study area and handicap accessibility gave rise to the need for a new facility. Mr.and Mrs. Louis R. Miller presented $100,000 to establish a fund for the construction of a new library. The East China School Board made available a building site on S.Parker just north of the Ward-Cottrell Elementary School. Over 600 gifts from private donors and several larger grants made the new library a reality. The Louis R. Miller - Marine City Public Library was constructed in 1983.
