Providing Quality

Solid Waste, Recycling and Composting Services

For The City of Marine City

BFI is pleased to introduce itself to you and offer you unlimited quality collection service once a week, ever week. With this comprehensive pickup service all 52 weeks of the year, you won't need to hang on to items waiting for an annual spring clean-up so the old "spring-up" will be discontinued.

PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU SEPARATE YOUR GARBAGE BAGS AND CANS SEVERAL FEET AWAY FROM WHERE YOUR RECYCLING BIN IS PLACED.

Refuse must be placed in a watertight can or tied in trash bags.

A can should not exceed 30-gallon capacity or weigh more than 60 pounds when filled. 95-gallon containers on wheels may be rented from BFI at the rate of $3.00 per month.

BULKY ITEMS: BFI will collect large items each week along with your regular pick-up -- no phone call is necessary.

REFRIGERANTS: Items containing freon (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers) must have a sticker certifying refrigerant removal by a licensed technician. Consult the Yellow Pages under "Appliances - Service".

HOLIDAYS: Collection will not take place on the 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, New Year's Day or Memorial Day. In weeks containing a holiday, collection will be delayed by one day.

COMPOSTING

Grass clippings, leaves, brush and other yard waste will be collected weekly, on Fridays, between April 1 and November 30.

These materials will be collected by a separate truck and taken to a state-approved compost site.

Compostable yard waste material must be placed in a "Kraft" paper bag (available at City Hall and other local retailers), OR the material must be placed "loose" in a metal or plastic can not more than 30 gallons in capacity or weighing more than 60 pounds when filled. These containers must be clearly labeled "Yard Waste" or "Compost". Labels are available by calling BFI.

BFI recommends letting grass clippings lie where they are cut.
